Necklace & Earrings: Vintage Reversible Pillow Beads
Necklace & Earrings: Vintage Reversible Pillow Beads
This vintage pillow bead necklace is reversible and in excellent condition. On one side there are hand-stamped beads that are tapered to a large bead that has a shadowbox style setting containing Kingman turquoise and Mediterranean coral. The reverse side of the necklace is simply silver but has the stamped silver as well. The sterling beads are strung on a sterling wire and contain a hook and eye clasp. The pillow bead earrings match the stamping motif and are studded. It is quite a versatile piece and a classic design that I couldn’t pass up with it being in such great condition.
Navajo Pearls are a traditional design that involves hand rolling sterling silver sheets into saucers or rounded beads, then oxidized for an "antique finish". After the beads are finished drying from oxidization, they are stamped, then hand spun for a buffed shine.
The process is long and laborious with a finished product that carries the rhythms of the artist. Navajo Pearls are often considered an "investment" piece to due the high amount of silver that they contain.
